Duties and responsibilities include the following:
Performs blood collection using a variety of phlebotomy techniques including vacutainer systems, syringe, butterfly, and/or capillary finger sticks Collect urine specimens and cultures in a manner that preserves the integrity of the sample. Evaluates the suitability of specimens. Uses a computer to retrieve laboratory test information Provides education to patients for proper collection techniques of urine, stool or other fluid collections. Adheres to all universal precautions, infection control, and safety regulations associated with phlebotomy Maintains operational and quality control logs, records, and worksheets Administers initial intervention in the event of an emergency Work Schedule:

Experience:
Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal Service. Qualifying specialized experience includes:
Performing blood collection using a variety of phlebotomy techniques, including vacutainer systems, syringe, butterfly, and/or capillary finger sticks. Selecting the best venipuncture site, most suitable phlebotomy equipment, appropriate cleansing agent(s), and proper collection vials. Assessing the condition of patient before, during, and after procedure. Providing education to patients regarding proper collection techniques of urine, stool, or other fluids. Preparing samples for testing to include labeling, centrifugation, decanting and aliquoting. Identifying unusual test results or conditions that can lead to erroneous results. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required):
Successful completion of a full 4 - year course of study above high school, leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business or technical school. Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required):
Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education in subjects directly related to the position, and specialized experience which meets the total qualification requirements for this position at the GS-5 level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Transcripts must be submitted with application. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
